"In its simplest and most critical form, the ability to actively listen to others for understanding and the ability to articulate one’s own point of view for the purpose of being understood are the two most essential skill sets of any conversation."There are Four Guiding Principles that provide the platform on which Bob Wilson’s work has been developed:CLEAR AND DELIBERATE COMMUNICATION – HEAR AND BE HEARDBusiness and management literature is replete with the importance and complexity of effective communication. In its simplest and most critical form, the ability to actively listen to others for understanding and the ability to articulate one’s own point of view for the purpose of being understood are the two most essential skill sets of any conversation. It is not only important that we communicate well, but that we also help others to do so. These skills can be learned and require discipline and practice. COLLABORATION—STRENGTH IN WORKING TOGETHERIt is his belief that collaboration –in the form of active stakeholder engagement –will lead to stronger agreements and acceptance of decisions. His work is designed to ensure that conversations engage participants fully and the level of involvement in decision making is deliberately thought through in advance of the conversation. ATTENTION TO PROCESSFurthering the work of an organization most often requires working with people in groups –teams and team meetings. What most often undermines the success of meetings is the lack of anyone’s attention to identifying the most effective processes to utilize in the meeting to further the discussion and agreements. Learning about and attending to those processes is a primary focus of his work. PERSONAL REFLECTION AND PROCESSEffective Leadership Development requires participants to improve their skills of personal reflection and self-observation. The use of sophisticated inventories (e.g. Myers-Briggs Type inventory) and solicited feedback from superiors, peers and subordinates contribute to this skill building. One-on-one coaching with Developing Leaders provides an opportunity for digesting, reflecting, and correcting one's behavior to be a more effective leader.
